As a very athletic person who love participating in sports, I would have never guessed in my lifetime, that I would become hopelessly addicted to smoking cigarettes. However, being involved with an ex girlfriend who was a heavy smoker, I somehow picked up the habit as well. 

Within months, my smoking had advanced to the point to where as soon as I arose from bed in the morning, lighting up a cigarette was my first priority.
 
Surprisingly, smoking even took precedence over the one thing I enjoyed doing most... my morning workouts!

Finally, after several years of the addiction, I decided it was time to give up the habit which had begun taking a physical toll on my body. I circled the exact date on my calendar which I would quit for good. When that day arrived, I lasted abou four hours, then I just couldn't resist the overwhelming urge to smoke. That's when I realized Mr. Nicotine had his treacherous grip on me and was refusing to let go. He seemed to be saying, "You'll quit smoking when I tell you to quit, now go sit down and light me up." "Oh And by the way, go into the refrigerator and bring a beer with you." 

Soon after, I tried quitting "Cold Turkey" several times, chewed nicotine gum and used the most popular stop smoking methods of the day, but in my case nothing helped. In fact, not only did I not stop smoking, I soon realized I had actually increased the number of cigarettes I smoked daily.

I could feel myself rapidly losing the nicotine battle, and that's when I really got serious and was determined to do something about it. After about nine months of  thoroughly testing several different strategies to rid myself of tobacco, finally through trial-and-error, I was able to formulate a system that allowed me to kick the smoking habit for good. 

 

 

I called it, "The Monday Morning Method." This program literally changed my life! I'm happy to say, I have been smoke-free since, 1983. 

After seeing several relatively new stop smoking programs over the past few years which required the use of prescription or over the counter medications, then reading of their horrible side effects (including death) many users suffered while taking these medications, I decided it was time for me to take action and reveal the program I created years ago. 

Not doing so would be an injustice to anyone struggling with their smoking addiction. It's a viable option for those who have failed in the past while trying to kick the habit.

What happens inside our bodies when we quit using tobacco? Have all the years of smoking caused too much damage for quitting to be of any benefit? Not at all!

AND THEIR HARMFUL

For those of you who may think about using some of the more popular advertised prescription or over-the-counter medications to stop smoking, you seriously need to research the unwelcomed side effects associated with these products.   

Medications like Chantix (Varenicline) which received a "priority review" by The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in February 2006, substantially shortening the 10 month review period because of it's supposed effectiveness in clinical trials and perceived lack of safety issues. By September 2006, Varenicline was made available for sale in the U.S. and Europe. Within a year of its release, the FDA had begun receiving post-marking reports that smokers using this products had began experiencing serious  side-effects including, suicidal ideation and behavior, hallucinations, kidney failure, joint & muscle pain and arthritis. 

In fact, by 2007, after oodles of reports of suicide (18 deaths), suicidality and odd behavior had been connected to Chantix. By September 2008, two years after the product was released 8,290 adverse reports had been levied against the drug. As of July 1, 2009, the U.S. Drug and Administration required Chantix to carry a Black Box Warning, the agency's strongest safety warning, which signifies that medical studies indicate that the drug carries a significant risk of serious or even life-threatening adverse effects. 

The next level below the Black Box Warning, I assume would be the skull and crossbones.  On July 4, 2011, four scientist published a review of a double-blinded study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal which found Chantix / Varenicline had increased risks of serious adverse cardiovascular events compared with a placebo. Chantix, Zyban, nicotine patches and gum, and stop smoking injections all come with inherited risks.

They were reimbursed for travel expenses associated with visiting their health provider to obtain it. They attended sixteen clinic visits involving brief one-on-one sessions with counselors trained in motivation and coping skills development. They also received up to eight follow-up telephone support calls from their Varenicline provider. 

In the real world that 22% an extremely low success rate or I should say "high failure rate" to begin with, only proves that the product as well as the program is a failure. How many real-world quitters will have the support benefit of 26 sessions with their prescribing physician? Any? If so, at what financial cost? If not, at what cost in terms of performance? Estimates show that as few as 9% of smokers who use Chantix as a stand-alone product will have success with their addiction. 

If these numbers are correct, as many will attest to, then in my opinion Chantix is nothing more than a RIP-OFF or SCAM which collects nearly a billion dollars in annual sales, about $910 million form those who the product didn't help at all or after 12 months. Aside from collecting billions over the years Pfizer also has also collected massive lawsuits from users of this product.

Studies constantly show in real world situations that using over-the-counter nicotine patch and gum found that only 7% of its users remained smoke free at the six-month mark, and less than 5% after a full year.
